The works of Clary Stolte (Amsterdam) can best be described as object research painting projects. With precise research of material properties and behaviour, her working process leads to minimal, yet particularly extreme interventions. She uses ephemeral and disposable products (soap, sugar, plastic, acrylic polymer emulsion, hair gel, shampoo, bubble gum) drawn from everyday domestic and commercial worlds in the making of her paintings, drawings and installations. The materials are mostly transparent and it is possible to apply several layers of a substance. Thus volume develops. Some of the materials she uses are perishable and start to ‘live their own life’. Hence some series are entitled 'Unfinished'.
